Deehan: his last job in football was as a scout for Grimsby.
Deehan joins Pilgrims staff
Plymouth have brought in John Deehan as the club’s new director of football.
The 54-year-old arrives to assist rookie boss Carl Fletcher, who has been in charge since September.
Deehan has enjoyed spells in charge of both Wigan and Norwich while he has also spent time coaching at Sheffield United and Aston Villa.
He said: “I have been very impressed by the coaching ability of Carl Fletcher, and I think his international career, and his vast and varied football career, will put him in good stead for the situation he has found himself in.
"I think it's commendable what Carl's done so far. He has turned the ship around to some extent and, at the moment, his trend seems to be that he has got a competitive team on the pitch.
"My role will be to try and help Carl continue that trend for the football club."
Relegation rivals Hereford made a similar appointment earlier in the season, bringing in Gary Peters to work with Jamie Pitman.
Fletcher and Deehan are tasked with leading Argyle to safety. The Pilgrims sit just a point above the drop zone after taking four points from their last two matches.
They travel to Port Vale on Saturday with Ladbrokes and Stan James going 7/2 on the visitors taking the points. The Valiants are a standout 8/9 with 188Bet.
Bet365 make Fletcher’s men 11/8 to suffer relegation.
